It was opened sometime in the 18th century, specifically in 1791 and it has been well-preserved over the centuries. Also, the cathedral serves as a museum. Italian painter Francesco Paolo Parisi has painted the walls and ceilings of the church. The Mausoleum of General San Martin is also there.
