10. The Red House

One of the places to visit in Trinidad and Tobago is The Red House. The Red House is the Parliament Building and the Seat in the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. The original Red House structure was designed by architect D. M. Hahn and it was erected some time in 1844 by the order of Sir Henry McLeod, Governor of the country at that time. In 1903, the house was damaged by water riots and was only rebuilt after four years. It is located in the capital city of Port of Spain.

9. President’s House

The President’s House is as the name says – it is the official home of the country’s President. It is Trinidad Island and was launched in 1876. This national landmark in Trinidad and Tobago is right beside the Botanic Gardens, one of the country’s most visited tourist attractions. When the country was still colonized, the President’s House has been used for a number of purposes – a home, a museum and a gallery. Today, it is private residence of the President and it also hosts diplomatic events from time to time.

8. Royal Botanic Gardens of Trinidad

Adjacent to the President’s House is the Royal Botanic Gardens of Trinidad. It is a 25-hectare tourist destination which was established some time in 1818. The Gardens are within the Queen’s Park Savannah in Port of Spain and it is one of the places to visit in Trinidad and Tobago. It is a public park and everyone can go there without having to pay for entrance fee but it has opening and closing hours. The most distinct feature of this park, aside from its wonderfully landscaped garden, is that each continent is represented by a tree and it grows in the Garden.

7. Holy Trinity Cathedral

The Holy Trinity Cathedral is the Anglical Church in the Diocese of Trinidad and Tobago. It was established sometime in the 1820’s and it had a beautiful Gothic appeal. Forlornly, after a century, it was burned down and the cathedral had to undergo a massive reconstruction in 1916. In less than seven years, it was opened again for its worshipers and has been preserved quite well by its diocese. Some say that the original cathedral and the cathedral that it is today look so much alike.

6. Mount Saint Benedict

Mount Saint Benedict is not a mountain attraction. It is a Benedictine monastery by the Order of Saint Benedict and they used to call it Abbey of Our Lady of Exile. It is located in St. Augustine and was founded in 1912. The land it is on spans 240 acres and is elevated at 700 feet. It was acquired by Dom Mayeul De Caigny, a monk from Brazil which made the monastery an asset of the Benedictine Order.

5. Northern Range

Now, this is a natural attraction in Trinidad and Tobago and yes, it is a peak. The Northern Range is one of the places to visit in Trinidad and Tobago if you are a mountain hiker, trekker and climber. You may even encounter some falls within the range. It is a cluster of towering hills all over Trinidad and it can be seen from about everywhere in the city. Two of the hills called Cerro del Aripo and El Tucuche are about 900 meters tall and these are the two tallest peaks of the Northern Range.

One of the most famous beaches in the country is Englishman’s Bay and it is located in a sheltered part of Tobago, at the borders of Castara and Parlatuvier. When you’re there, it’s like you’re in a movie – forest enveloping a very beautiful beach. It’s just like a haven that is so secluded; you’d can hear the wind blowing.

3. Yerette Bird Sanctuary

The Yerette Bird Sanctuary is a tourist attraction in Trinidad and Tobago that features the Yerette Hummingbirds. People love going there because of the lovely hummingbirds that sing perfect tunes and if you want to go there as a group, it would be better to book your tour online so that the whole travel experience will be maximized and organized accordingly. You can even eat lunch there which travelers say is deliciously prepared. It is located in Maracas Valley, Maracas Bay, Trinidad and Tobago.

2. Emperor Valley Zoo

Emperor Valley Zoo was established in 1952 by Governor Sir Hubert Rance. It is the country’s largest zoo and it situated near the Royal Botanic Gardens and within Queen’s Park Savannah. At this time, there are more than 2,300 animals within the zoo and as for species, about 200 in total. It used to be a small zoo back when it was opened for public viewing – a few cages with only 127 indigenous animals. As the years went on, the zoo grew big and has become one of the major attractions in the country.

1. Asa Wright Nature Centre

The most toured destination in Trinidad and Tobago is the Asa Wright Nature Centre. It is an ecotourism resort complex with a science center. It is located in one of the hills of the Northern Range called the Arima Valley and it is the best place in the entire Caribbean to go to for bird watching. All in all, the centre has observed the lives of at least 159 bird species. This place is run by a nonprofit organization and it is the closest experience that you can get when it comes to “wildlife in the city”. It is one of the places to visit in Trinidad and Tobago.
