10 Worst Airports in the World

The reason why people travel is to see the beautiful culture in different countries. A big part of that experience is to start at the port of entry and exit which is the airport. Now, this may destroy your holiday vibe if you encounter troubles while getting in and out. So, as a precautionary method, here are the top Top 10 Worst Airports in the World, according to airline pilots and staff, and frequent travelers around the globe:

Worst Airports in the World

10. London Luton International Airport, England (LTN)

Because of long-running renovations and repairs, this once working airport is now a circus. From disembarking the plane, collecting things and finally going out of the airport is longer than the airplane trip. This is serious.

And to add to the frustration of their clients, every move they make is equivalent to money – plastic bags are charged, weighing bags are charged and even drop offs are charged! This is indeed deserving of a spot in the Top 10 Worst Airports in the World.

9. Santorini Thira National Airport, Greece (JTR)

Santorini is a goal destination but tourists are thinking twice to visit because of their airport service. Once you land the beautiful and exquisite Santorini, your smile will be short-lived. The first struggle is the long line under the scorching heat of the sun – hours of waiting for check-in.

Next, there are no directional and staff is limited. It’s like falling in line without knowing what’s at the end. And if you get lucky to enter the airport in as short as 2 hours, be ready for a non-aircon airport experience while waiting for your flight.

8. Paris Beauvais-Tille Airport, Paris, France

People understand the essence of renovations and constructions. They get that it is really needed and important. But what if the temporary structures assembled because there is a supposed building repair becomes a 10-year struggle for passengers? This is the case in Paris Beauvais-Tille Airport. It looks like a warehouse, to put it lightly.

The airport offers free Wi-Fi that cannot be used. It is unclean most of the time and the staff is not friendly at all, said the travelers. One of the Top 10 Worst Airports in the World indeed…

7. Pyongyang Sunan International Airport (FNJ), North Korea

North Korea is not a very tourist-friendly country. This can all be witnessed once you step out of the plane and get into the Pyongyang Sunan International Airport. Can you imagine an airport with only one gate for departures and arrivals?

They do have an internet facility quarters but North Koreans are basically banned from using the net so no internet for you. Also, expect the guards to search your private belongings especially your snapped photos in the country.

6. Sao Paulo-Congonhas Airport (CGH), Brazil

An airline pilot once said that if there was an airport that he didn’t want to land on, it was the Sao Paulo-Congonhas Airport. In 2007, a plane crashed into one of the warehouses near the airport and everyone aboard was killed because of its slippery landing strip.

The weather can affect the safety of everyone in the airport as well, which is why it had to close down in 2006 because of heavy rainfall. It may sound weird but an airport closing down because of intense rain? This definitely deserves the Top 10 Worst Airports in the World award.

Worst Airport terminals in the world

5. Adolfo Suarez Madrid-Bajaras Airport, (MAD), Spain

According to airline pilots, this does not look like a functional airport at all. One of them said that the terminals require a super long walk – the word used to describe the long walk was KILOMETERS. And you might feel claustrophobic since it is a very narrow space.

Madrid-Bajaras Airport has some restaurants that are super expensive and not worth it to buy food. The vending machine prices have been jacked up too. And if you look at the airport signage, you will feel completely lost.

4. Port Harcourt International Airport, Nigeria (PHC)

This was ranked the worst airport in Africa and one of the worst in the entire globe. They have tents for passengers arriving from different international locations – yes, TENTS – you read that right. It was blamed on the fact that the government is corrupt and that the improvement of the facility is always delayed.

Their airport staff seemed untrained to welcome and send off guests, they have a shortage of seats for passengers waiting to leave the country and the air conditioner is ALWAYS broken. This is the reason why it has a spot in the Top 10 Worst Airports in the World.

3. Tashkent International Airport, Uzbekistan (TAS)

This airport is supposed to be the entrance for Central Asian passengers coming from other continents. And yet, the experience one will encounter in this hell hole is simply outrageous. The truth is you have to be aggressive in this airport. You might forget who you are as a decent human being because if you want to get on board in time, you have to push your way through.

Crowd control? They do not have that in Tashkent International Airport. The waiting area if you get inside is quite nice but the whole ordeal is getting inside the airport – you’ve been warned.

2. Caracas Simón Bolívar International Airport, Venezuela (CCS)

It may be an international or domestic flight, but CCS is the top 2 worst airport globally. Chaos is everywhere from unsanitary and super filthy comfort rooms to chair-less waiting areas. If you are willing to spend some money in their Admirals or Premier Club, then, it would be a lesser painful experience. Otherwise, be ready to face irritating and sometimes corrupt police officials.

How about food, you say? Bring your own meals – it would be better for you.

1. Jeddah King Abdulaziz International Airport, Saudi Arabia (JED)

Because of the massive renovations, the JED is a bundle of disorder. A lot of people especially Muslims are going in and out of the country because of the Pilgrimage to Mecca and other traditions that they want to follow which then brings to the topic of airport maintenance and security.

It seems that the staff is lazy and tired in doing their jobs leaving the environment unclean most of the time and in utter chaos. It is that bad because it garnered the number 1 in the Top 10 Worst Airports in the World. Hopefully when the renovations are over, the airport will be glorious.
